Education
and
Technical Training

Education and Technical Training we offer consists of: Community Environmental Health Assessment Training and Craftsmanship. ICEPSM equips members of the workforce participating in our programs with training in manufacturing crafts that are primarily handmade such as wood furnishings that draw upon cultural and architectural heritages from around the world. ICEPSM sources hardwood lumber from temperate North American forests, a naturally sustainable resource, using suppliers that have shown a commitment to environmental stewardship. Technical skills training reinforce skill- and knowledge-building in various environmental fields.

Community Environmental Health Assessment Training

ICEPSM offers training in environmental health assessment and risk identification and reduction and how to create action plans to prevent adverse health effects in the buildings and communities we inhabit and work in. We are targeting participants over 16 years of age interested in learning how to begin implementing net zero emissions goals at the interface of the built[2] and natural environment. In addition, ICEPSM helps participants learn how strategic environmental and social assessments are conducted in ways that can aid long term planning to: reduce emissions and other forms of toxic waste such as lead and cadmium; promote equitable clean energy utilization and access, improve air quality in housing and workplaces, and strengthen occupational safety and health; and inform laws, policies and community decision-making.

Craftsmanship Training and Heritage

Innovation-Clean Energy Economy Pathways (ICEP), Inc.® craftsmanship training inspires participants to learn about the diverse intellectual and cultural heritages and social histories that influenced the creation of the built environment [3]. It is foundational to the training we offer in designing and fabricating hand-crafted works of art made from natural materials (wood) and nature-derived materials.

Looking behind the mask of this pottery vessel made from black earth – “terra preta”- gives us a glimpse into ancient sustainable farming practices that enhance soil fertility in tropical and subtropical habitats in Amazonia and other parts of the world.

ICEP Dialogues Towards Sustaining LifeSM

Innovation-Clean Energy Economy Pathways (ICEP), Inc.® has given public access to examples of community-led innovation online through its ICEP Dialogues Towards Sustaining LifeSM program.

Our ICEP  Dialogues Towards Sustaining LifeSM program series has featured speakers who, through dialogues with their communities, have come to new insights on what sustainability means in the 21st century. Speakers delve into how we perceive the world and each other and what underserved communities are doing with available resources to solve challenges to sustaining life.

Aminah Pilgrim, now an ICEP Director, gave a talk on how she carries out her work for underserved youth through her community-led organization in Massachusetts, SABURA, Inc. Dr. Pilgrim’s talk was broadcast by Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

We typically pair the production of such broadcasts with onsite training in video editing for ICEPSM-participating youth volunteers: a skill that can strengthen the capacity of young entrepreneurs to advertise their work and find employment.
